How it works

Pick the area and the wax
On Treatwell, each waxing item says whether it is strip wax or hot wax. If you are not sure which you need, book the area and ask your therapist before she starts.

Before you come
Let the hair grow for two to three weeks after shaving, so it is long enough for the wax to grip. Skip scrubs, fake tan and body lotion on the area on the day.

The wax
10 minutes (small face areas) to 60 minutes (full body)Your therapist cleans the skin, applies the wax in small sections and removes it, working with the direction of hair growth. Any stray hairs may be tidied with tweezers.

Check and aftercare
She checks for missed hairs, and you get aftercare advice for the area before you leave.
Good to know
- Strip wax and hot wax cost different amounts for the same area, so check the wax type when you book.
- Tell your therapist if you use retinol, prescription skin creams or acne medication, or have sunburn, broken skin or a skin condition in the area. These make skin more likely to lift, and some mean waxing has to wait.
- Redness, small bumps and tenderness are common for a day or so. Ingrown hairs can follow if the skin is not gently exfoliated once it has settled.
- Waxing is not done over moles, cuts, varicose veins or irritated skin.
- Men's waxing covers the back, chest, shoulders and abdomen.

Aftercare
For a day or two after waxing, skip hot baths, saunas, steam rooms, the gym, strong sun and perfumed products on the area, and wear loose clothing after a bikini, Brazilian or Hollywood wax. After a couple of days, gently exfoliate a few times a week to help stop ingrown hairs. If your skin is still sore after a few days, call the salon.
Strip wax and hot wax: what is the difference?
Strip wax is spread thinly and pulled off with a cloth strip; hot wax goes on thicker, sets on the hair and is lifted off by itself. Hot wax costs more for the same area, so if a price ever looks different from what you expected, check which wax the booking says.
On our menu, the face, legs, arms and most body areas are strip wax. The face has a hot wax option too, the underarms and bikini line come in both, and the Brazilian, Hollywood and extended bikini options are hot wax. Every one is priced separately on this page.
Brazilian and Hollywood wax
Both are done with hot wax and take about 30 minutes. A Hollywood takes everything off; a Brazilian leaves a small strip or triangle at the front. First time? Say so when you arrive. Your therapist will talk you through it before she starts.
Bikini wax
If you only want the edges tidied, choose the bikini line (strip or hot wax) or the extended bikini, sometimes called a G-string wax, which takes a little more away.
Facial waxing and eyebrow wax
We wax the lower lip, upper lip, chin, forehead, nostrils, sides, neck, eyebrows and full face, in strip wax or hot wax. If you prefer thread for your face or brows, see eyebrow threading.
Legs, underarms and full body wax
Half leg, three-quarter leg and full leg wax, half and full arm, underarms, chest, stomach, back and buttocks are all on the menu. A full body wax covers legs, arms and underarms in about an hour.
Men’s waxing
Men’s waxing covers the back, chest, shoulders, back and shoulders together, and abdomen. If you are tired of waxing the same area again and again, ask about laser hair removal, which reduces hair growth over a course. All of our waxing prices are also on the full price list.

What is the difference between strip wax and hot wax?
Strip wax is spread on thinly and pulled off with a cloth strip. Hot wax goes on thicker, sets on the hair and is lifted off on its own, with no strip, which is why it is used for the bikini area and often chosen for sensitive skin. Both are listed on this page, at different prices, so check which one you are booking.
What is the difference between a Hollywood and a Brazilian wax?
A Hollywood wax removes all of the hair from the bikini area, front to back. A Brazilian removes everything except a small strip or triangle at the front, which you can ask to have shaped. Both are done with hot wax at NBA Clinic and take about 30 minutes. If you only want the edges tidied, the bikini line or extended bikini options are smaller.
How long does a wax take, and will it sting?
Waxing stings for a moment as each strip comes off, and the bikini area and upper lip feel it most. It tends to bother people less after the first few visits. Small face areas take about ten minutes, a Brazilian or Hollywood about 30 minutes, full legs about 40 minutes and a full body wax about an hour.
Do you do men's waxing?
Men's waxing is on our menu for the back, chest, shoulders, back and shoulders together, and abdomen. Each has its own price on this page, and you book it on Treatwell like any other treatment. If you want an area that is not listed, call the salon and ask before you book.
How long does my hair need to be for waxing?
Hair needs to be long enough for the wax to grip, which usually means two to three weeks of growth after shaving. Very short hair breaks rather than coming out from the root, and very long hair can make waxing more uncomfortable. If you are unsure, book anyway and your therapist will tell you whether it is ready.
What should I do after a Brazilian or Hollywood wax?
After a Brazilian or Hollywood wax, wear loose, clean underwear and skip hot baths, saunas, the gym, swimming and sex for a day or so, while the skin settles. Avoid perfumed products on the area. After a couple of days, gently exfoliate a few times a week to help stop ingrown hairs. Redness and small bumps usually go within a day.
