What people ask us about first

  • My back, neck and shoulders feel stiff and tight after a long week at a desk.
  • I want a full body massage close to home in Barkingside, not a trip into town.
  • I only have half an hour at lunch. Is that long enough?
  • I have never had an Indian head massage and don't know what happens.
  • I want to know exactly what each massage covers and what it costs before I book.

What you can expect

  • A back, neck and shoulders massage works on the areas that tend to feel tight from sitting, carrying bags or looking at a phone.
  • A full body massage gives you an hour of slow, steady massage from your back to your legs and arms.
  • An Indian head massage or head massage works on the scalp, neck and shoulders, and you can stay clothed for it.
  • A foot and leg massage or a hand massage is a shorter treat if you have been on your feet all day.
  • A face lift massage is a gentle facial massage, offered in 15, 30 and 60 minute lengths.
  • Most people leave feeling calmer and looser. How you feel afterwards varies from person to person.

How it works

  1. Choose your massage on Treatwell

Pick the massage and length you want. Every massage on our menu is listed with its time and price, so you know what you are booking.

  2. Tell us about your health first

When you arrive, your therapist asks a few questions: any injuries, medical conditions, pregnancy, skin problems or areas to avoid. Tell us about anything that is sore or that you would rather not have massaged.

  3. Your massage

    15 to 60 minutes

You are shown to a treatment room and given time to get ready. For a back or full body massage you lie on the couch, covered with towels, and only the area being massaged is uncovered. Say at any point if you want more or less pressure.

  4. Afterwards

Take a minute before you get up. A glass of water and an easy rest of the day help you make the most of it.

Good to know

  • Our massages are relaxation and therapeutic salon treatments only. They are not medical treatment and do not replace advice from your GP or a physiotherapist.
  • If you are pregnant, have a medical condition, a recent injury or operation, or are unsure, check with your GP first and tell us when you book.
  • Massage is not suitable over broken skin, a rash, a fresh bruise, varicose veins or a recent injury. We will work around those areas.
  • Some people feel a little tender the day after a firmer massage. Tell your therapist if you would like a lighter touch.
  • Massage is offered during the salon's normal opening hours only, shown on our contact page.

Aftercare

Drink some water, take it easy for the rest of the day if you can, and avoid a heavy workout straight after. If you had oil used on your skin or hair, a warm shower or wash at home removes any that is left.

Back, neck and shoulder massage

A good fit if you work at a desk or drive a lot. In 30 minutes your therapist works across the upper back, shoulders and neck. If you would rather focus on the back alone, a ladies’ back massage is on the menu at the same length.

Full body massage

If you are looking for a full body massage in Ilford or Barkingside, ours is an hour long, which gives time for the back, shoulders, arms and legs without rushing. It is a calming massage, not a sports or injury treatment.

Indian head massage and head massage

Both are seated and done fully clothed, so they suit anyone who does not want to undress. An Indian head massage works across the scalp, neck, shoulders and upper arms. A head massage concentrates on the scalp.

Foot and leg, hand and face lift massage

For tired feet and legs, a foot and leg massage takes half an hour. A hand massage is a short 15 minutes. The face lift massage is a gentle facial massage in three lengths, and it pairs well with one of our facials.

Common questions

Where can I get a massage in Ilford?

We offer massage at NBA Clinic, 92 High Street, Barkingside, Ilford IG6 2DR, about a 12-minute walk from Barkingside station on the Central line. Clients come to us from Barkingside, Gants Hill, Newbury Park and Ilford. Every massage is bookable on Treatwell, during our normal salon opening hours.

How much is a massage?

Every massage price is listed on this page and on our full price list at /prices/, taken from our Treatwell menu. The price depends on the type of massage and how long it is: a 15-minute hand massage costs much less than a 60-minute full body massage, and the face lift massage comes in three lengths.

What happens in a full body massage?

A full body massage lasts an hour. You lie on the couch under towels, and your therapist works on your back, shoulders, arms and legs in turn, uncovering only the area being massaged. It is booked on our menu as a ladies' full body massage. Tell your therapist about any areas to avoid and how much pressure you like.

What does a back, neck and shoulder massage cover?

A back, neck and shoulder massage takes 30 minutes and concentrates on the upper body, where many people carry tightness from desk work or carrying children and bags. It fits into a lunch break. If you only want the back, there is also a ladies' back massage on the menu, which covers the back alone in 30 minutes.

What is an Indian head massage?

An Indian head massage is a seated massage of the scalp, neck, shoulders and upper arms, and you stay fully clothed. It takes 30 minutes. Some people like it because there is no undressing and nothing to lie down for. We also offer a separate head massage, which is listed on its own on our menu.

Does a massage hurt?

A massage should not hurt. Some areas may feel tender if they are tight, and you may feel a little sore the next day after firmer pressure. Your therapist will check the pressure with you, and you can ask for lighter or firmer at any point. If something feels wrong, say so straight away.

Is there any downtime after a massage?

There is no downtime, and you can go straight back to your day. Drinking some water and avoiding a hard workout straight afterwards helps. If you feel a bit tender the next day, that usually passes quickly. Tell us if it does not, and see your GP if you are worried.

What kind of massage do you offer?

We offer relaxation and therapeutic salon massage only, in a treatment room, during normal salon hours. Our menu covers hand, head, Indian head, back, back neck and shoulders, foot and leg, full body and face lift massage. It is not medical treatment, so for an injury or ongoing pain, please see your GP or a physiotherapist.
