What people ask us about first
- My brows have grown out and I want them tidied back into shape.
- Last time someone took too much off. I want my brows to stay full.
- I want my upper lip and chin done quickly, without a long appointment.
- What exactly will it cost? I do not want a different price at the till.
- I have never had face threading. Will it irritate my skin?
What you can expect
- Brows shaped to the look you ask for. Say how full you want them before your therapist starts, and ask her to stop and show you as she goes.
- Small areas such as the upper lip, chin, forehead or sides done in about ten minutes each.
- A full face thread in about half an hour.
- A price for each area, listed on this page and on Treatwell, so you can check before you book.
- Some redness straight afterwards, which usually settles quickly.
How it works
-
Book or ask at the desk
Book the area you want on Treatwell, or ask at the desk if you are passing on Barkingside High Street. Walk-ins are seen when a therapist is free; booking holds your time.
-
Say what shape you want
Tell your therapist the brow shape you want and how much to take off. If you are growing your brows out, or you have a photo of a shape you like, show her first.
-
Threading
10 minutes per area, 30 for full faceYour therapist twists a length of cotton thread and rolls it along the skin, lifting out short rows of hair from the root. She may ask you to hold your skin taut while she works.
-
Check the shape
You check the result in the mirror before you go. If you want a little more taken off, say so then, while you are still in the chair.
Good to know
- Redness and a little puffiness are common straight after, especially on the upper lip. It usually settles quickly.
- Tell your therapist if you use retinol, prescription skin creams or acne medication, or if the skin is sunburnt, broken or irritated in the area.
- Threaded hair grows back from the root, so most people come back every few weeks. How often depends on how fast your hair grows.
- Threading is priced by area. A full face is one price, rather than each area added up.

Aftercare
Keep your hands off the threaded area, and skip make-up, fake tan, perfumed products, saunas and strong sun on it for the rest of the day so the skin has time to calm down. If small spots appear after face threading, keep the area clean and leave them alone; they usually go on their own.
Eyebrow shaping
Most of our threading is eyebrow shaping: tidying regrowth, cleaning up under the arch, and keeping a shape you already like. Threading lets your therapist take out one short row of hairs at a time, which gives a clean line. The most useful thing you can do is say what you want before she starts. If you want your brows to stay full, or you are growing them out, say so, and ask her to show you halfway through. Bring a photo if you have a shape in mind.
If you want your brows darker or set in place after threading, see lash lift and brow lamination, which covers brow tints and lamination.

Face threading
Face threading uses the same thread to remove hair from the rest of the face. It is quick, and nothing but cotton touches your skin.
Upper lip threading
The upper lip is the most booked area after brows. It takes about ten minutes and can sting more than other areas, but it is over fast. You can book it on its own or as lip and chin together.
Chin threading
The chin, like the upper lip, takes about ten minutes. Coarser chin hairs come out from the root, so they take longer to come back than after tweezing one by one.
Full face threading
A full face thread covers the brows, lips, chin, forehead and sides in one booking of about half an hour, at a single price. It is the simpler choice if you get several areas done each time. All of our threading prices are also on the full price list. Prefer wax for the face? See facial waxing.
Common questions
Where can I get eyebrow threading in Ilford?
NBA Clinic does eyebrow threading at 92 High Street, Barkingside, Ilford IG6 2DR, about a 12 minute walk from Barkingside station. Brows take about ten minutes. You can book on Treatwell, or ask at the desk and be seen when a therapist is free. We also thread the upper lip, lower lip, chin, forehead, sides and full face.
How much is eyebrow threading?
The eyebrow threading price is listed on this page with every other threading area, and on our price list. The price depends only on the area: eyebrows, upper lip, chin and the other small areas each have their own price, and a full face is a single price. Check that the area on your Treatwell booking matches what you want done, so the price is the one you expect.
Does threading hurt?
Threading stings a little, a bit like plucking but quicker, because the thread lifts several hairs at once. The upper lip tends to feel sharpest. Many people find it bothers them less once they have it done regularly. Each small area takes about ten minutes and a full face about half an hour, so it is over quickly.
What is face threading, and which areas can you do?
Face threading uses the same cotton thread as brows to remove fine and coarse facial hair. At NBA Clinic we thread the upper lip, lower lip, chin, lip and chin together, forehead, sides of the face and full face. Each area is priced on this page. If you want everything done, a full face thread is one booking of about half an hour.
Can I have threading if I have sensitive skin?
Threading suits a lot of people with sensitive skin, because only the cotton thread touches the skin, with no wax or creams. Redness straight after is still normal. Tell your therapist if you use retinol, prescription creams or acne medication, or if the skin is sunburnt or broken, because she may need to leave that area until it has healed.
Do I need to book eyebrow threading, or can I walk in?
Walk-ins are welcome when a therapist is free, and threading is quick, so it is often possible to be seen the same day. Booking on Treatwell holds your time, which is worth doing on a Saturday or before an event. Either way, the price is the one listed for the area on this page.
How do I look after my skin after threading?
There is no real downtime after threading. Keep your hands off the area, and skip make-up, fake tan, perfumed products, saunas and strong sun on it for the rest of the day. Redness usually settles quickly. If small spots appear after face threading, keep the skin clean and leave them alone.
